Writing your medical CV can be a daunting task, but with a little preparation and the right formatting, it won’t take you long to create a CV that is among the most effective.
A medical CV is a document that highlights your education, job experience and skills, clearly and concisely. The purpose of rebuilding your medical CV is to find the best job for you. We have put together some key tips to help.
- Add a synopsis of your experience at the very top of your CV, just under your name. It only needs to be a sentence but make sure you highlight how many years you have been working in your speciality, what grade or band you are and add in anything you feel stands you apart from another applicant (ie a subspecialty or specialist skill). The Managers or Clinicians will have numerous CVs to go through and very little time to look at them, you want your CV to stand out as soon as they read it
- Check that your relevant education and qualifications are at the top of your CV and that you include the dates you qualified
- Don’t just put your job title, your place of work and dates. Always ensure you include bullet points below it of the key responsibilities and daily tasks you were involved in
- Try and put 3 to 4 referee details towards the end of your CV for references
- Keep it concise, ideally no more than 4 to 5 pages
The last thing you should do before sending your CV is to check for spelling and grammar mistakes. A professional CV is a reflection of you, your personality, and your attitude. It shows potential employers what you can bring to them.
