As one of the UK’s largest providers of community-based Dermatology services, our client is expanding its team to support the future growth of our community dermatology services. Our community dermatology service manages a wide range of dermatological conditions that would otherwise be referred to secondary care. Our team of consultants, GPwERs, and specialist nurses provide patients with rapid access to specialist opinions from various clinic locations across West Midlands. We strive to deliver exceptional standards of care within the community, ensuring patients are seen within 3 months from referral, and referring GPs can access timely advice and guidance. Our service also incorporates a regular consultant-led MDT, ensuring continuous professional development for our clinicians.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical care and administration for managing a dermatology caseload.
- Develop and sustain relationships with patients, carers, and interdisciplinary team members across care settings to maintain effective communication and exchange of information.
- Conduct clinical encounters involving:
- Using history-taking skills to establish the problem, plan of action, and review of the action taken.
- Liaison with other team members/supervising clinicians to resolve issues.
- Following drug protocols and repeat prescribing.
- Making onward referrals to other providers.
- Scheduling follow-up appointments within the service.
- Ensuring required documentation is completed.
- Support service audit and improvement.
- Undertake independent clinics alongside a supervising senior clinician, ensuring excellent standards of nursing care through planning, coordinating, delivery, and evaluation of clinics.
- Manage phototherapy sessions.
- Request, interpret, and inform patients regarding investigation results such as blood, urine, and microbiology tests, and act appropriately on anomalies.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using email communication, word processing, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel databases.
- Organize, prioritize, and evaluate workload based on accepted referral criteria.
- Make decisions regarding patient care within clinical/professional guidelines and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Participate actively in all aspects of the clinical governance process.
- Promote infection control, environmental safety, and risk management.
- Undertake regular audits using research methodology to implement changes in practice and improve patient care.
- Participate in reviewing policies and protocols related to the service.
- Experience with DMARDs is desirable.
Communication:
- Work as part of the multidisciplinary dermatology team, fostering good interdepartmental relationships with a focus on continuous quality improvement.
- Document details of all patient encounters/consultations within the clinical record and provide appropriate written information to support verbal advice.
- Communicate effectively with hospital medical staff, community staff, general practitioners, and nursing staff, providing specialist support and advice in the care and treatment of patients.
- Provide expert professional advice for other healthcare team members and patients as required.
Service Development & Evaluation:
- Support risk management assessments surrounding the implementation of safe and effective treatment.
- Manage and prioritize referrals to the service and determine referrals requiring onward referral to other providers.
- Participate in clinical support, education, and liaison with the multidisciplinary team.
- Identify clinical issues and incidents impacting service quality and ensure they are reported and managed according to Modality LLP policies.
- Support discussions on the service’s progress and highlight areas for further development.
Professional Development:
- Attend and contribute to monthly dermatology MDT meetings.
- Engage in performance reviews and annual appraisals to discuss role development.
- Attend relevant courses and events supporting the development and progression of the service and role.
Other Responsibilities:
- Undertake other ad hoc duties as required by the Dermatology Clinical Lead, such as completing service audits.
- Perform any other duties commensurate with the role and within your skill set as requested.

General:
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role, within your competence.
- Work across service sites as required.
- Adapt to changes in national policy and business needs, including potential alterations to service opening hours.
