Are you a dedicated and skilled Biomedical Scientist with a passion for haematology? We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our Clinical Laboratory Services team in Gibraltar. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a vital area of healthcare, performing complex clinical tests and investigations to support the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Haematology Expertise: Utilise your specialist knowledge in haematology to perform a range of clinical laboratory tests accurately and efficiently.
- Sample Analysis: Ensure all sample analyses are completed within target turnaround times, maintaining the highest standards of quality and precision.
- Workflow Management: Maintain established workflow patterns to optimise laboratory operations and ensure timely processing of tests.
- Quality Control: Apply all internal quality control procedures for tests undertaken, taking corrective action where significant variance occurs.
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot departmental and Point of Care instrumentation, performing regular maintenance procedures.
- Documentation and Compliance: Assist in producing, maintaining, and updating all relevant documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, and participate in Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA) compliance.
- Training and Supervision: Train and supervise Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA), Trainee Biomedical Scientists (BMS), bursary students, and newly qualified staff. Provide instruction to less experienced staff and support their development.
- Operational Management: Deputise for section leaders as needed, managing daily responsibilities, work allocation, and staff supervision.
- Research and Audit: Contribute to specialist technical services by processing research and audit samples, and assist in evaluating and implementing new methodologies and reagents.
- Continuous Development: Maintain and develop your expertise and specialist skills, and acquire basic competencies in related laboratory disciplines after appropriate training.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- Certification as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Extensive experience in haematology is essential.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and electronic health records.
