We are seeking an experienced Ophthalmology Scrub Practitioner, skilled in cataract surgery, to join our team.
Role Overview
As an Ophthalmology Scrub Practitioner specialising in cataract surgery, you will be a crucial member of a dedicated team of four, working closely with an allocated surgeon to perform up to 16 cataract procedures per day. Your role will involve ensuring that each surgery is conducted efficiently, safely, and to the highest standard of care.
This is a full-time role, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, starting in September and ongoing.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating theatre with all necessary instruments and equipment, ensuring they are sterilised and ready for cataract procedures.
- Assist the surgical team during cataract surgeries, providing direct support to the allocated surgeon.
- Maintain a sterile environment and adhere strictly to infection control protocols.
- Monitor the patient’s condition throughout the surgery, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of operations.
- Maintain accurate records of procedures and ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and guidelines.
- Provide post-operative care and support, assisting with patient recovery as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered Nurse (RGN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with valid NMC/HCPC registration.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Scrub Practitioner, with a strong focus on cataract surgery.
- In-depth knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures specific to cataract surgery.
- Strong understanding of infection control and sterile techniques.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive and detail-oriented approach to patient care and surgical assistance.
- PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scheme membership or in date certificate is required.
