Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team. You will deliver specialist assessments and interventions for young people with moderate to severe mental illness in various settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct autonomous assessments of complex mental health needs for children and young people.
- Provide therapeutic interventions and crisis management in community and clinic settings.
- Guide and direct staff in patient care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Perform risk assessments and manage care planning for young people in crisis.
- Liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
- Act as Care Coordinator, ensuring care follows the Care Programme Approach.
- Participate in clinical audits and ensure service quality compliance.
Leadership and Managerial Duties
- Manage complex cases and ensure effective communication within the team.
- Support junior staff in performance improvement and professional development.
- Act as a professional role model, promoting high standards and professional values.
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of CAMHS operational policies and services.
Communication
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
- Manage conflict and act as an advocate for patients and junior staff.
- Maintain high standards of clinical record-keeping and provide comprehensive reports.
Training and Education
- Lead health promotion activities for clients and their families.
- Mentor and supervise staff and students.
- Engage in continuous professional development and mandatory training programs.
Audit and Research
- Initiate and undertake clinical audits to maintain practice standards.
- Promote and incorporate evidence-based practices.
Requirements
- Qualifications: Registered Health or Social Care Professional, Degree in a related field, Teaching/Mentoring qualification.
- Experience:
- Previous CAMHS experience
- Significant multidisciplinary experience of working with clients and families or groups
- Substantial experience in teaching, training, and professional supervision
- Autonomous responsibility for working with clients with mental health issues
- Further training in a treatment modality: DBT, CBT, Systemic Therapy, EMDR
- Skills: Advanced therapeutic approaches, high-level communication, IT proficiency, understanding of relevant legislation, and risk assessment.
Personal Skills
- Ability to work independently and manage complex situations.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated team player with stamina for an intensive clinical caseload.
- Flexible and creative approach to care models.
- Valid driving license.
